About

Demography Education and Empowerment Organisation (DEEMO) is a community-based organisation established to support vulnerable children and youth by improving their livelihoods through education, life skills, and sports. The organisation provides academic support from kindergarten through high school, creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop their knowledge, confidence, and potential. Currently, DEEO serves more than 150 children and youth through its educational and empowerment programs.

DEEO offers the following activities:

Formal Education: Providing educational opportunities for vulnerable children and youth through kindergarten classes, after-school tutoring, private candidate preparation, and support for students resetting national examinations.
Sports Development: Promoting physical and mental well-being through football, netball, and other recreational sports and games.
Social Education: Delivering life skills training, financial literacy, and sexual and reproductive health education to empower young people to make informed decisions.

Location

DEEMO is located in Mikese, 1758 Morogoro , a small town known for its fertile farmland and food crop cultivation. The area is peaceful, safe, and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, including diverse flora and fauna, making it an attractive place for volunteers who enjoy nature and rural life.

Accommodation

Volunteers stay with a secure and welcoming host family in the village, within walking distance of the project site. The homestay offers shared accommodation, three nutritious meals a day, and safe boiled drinking water, providing a comfortable, supportive, and authentic cultural experience throughout the placement.

Volunteer Tasks

  • As an assistant teacher teach academic subjects such as mathematics, physics, geography, biology, or chemistry
  • Support as an assistant caretaker in the nursery classes i.e. baby, middle or upper class
  • Facilitate social education trainings
  • Conduct community outreach activities
  • Coordinate sports and games activities
  • Support the resource mobilisation and fundraising team

Volunteer Requirements

  • Willing to work in a small-town
  • Passionate about education and social development, especially football and netball
  • Be able to speak and write in English
  • Have professional experience in teaching, educational development, fundraising, administration work or communication for content creation
  • Be confident and show public speaking skills.
