About

Chamwino Arts Center (CAC) registered as non-profit in 2020 with the aim to promote and preserve Tanzania’s cultural heritage through performing and visual arts. Through its flagship program, the CIGOGO Music Festival, the project engages over 1,000 local artists each year, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents to an audience of more than 3,000 attendees, including community members, partners, and arts enthusiasts.

The activities include:

CIGOGO Music Festivals: It is the CAC’s flagship annual event, bringing together emerging artists, local communities, and audiences to celebrate Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage through music, dance, visual arts, and creative expression.

Training and Workshops: To equip youth and artists with practical skills in arts, leadership, digital marketing, financial literacy and creative development.

Fine Art: Taking pride in training students in art forms like dance, drama, painting and more.

Cultural Dialogue: Facilitate information sharing based-on culture and people’s lifestyle that connect local artists with global networks and strengthen community development.

Location

The project is located in Chamwino Ikulum, 17013 – Dodoma. Chamwino is one of the fastest-growing and well-planned residential neighborhoods in Dodoma, Tanzania. It is located approximately 10 km from the Government City, where most government ministries and public institutions are situated, and about 30 km from city centre.

Volunteer Tasks

• Facilitate training and workshops for emerging artists in computer literacy, communication skills, language course, digital marketing, and financial literacy
• Conduct performing and visual arts, depending on the volunteer’s expertise
• Support in planning, coordination, and implementation of the CIGOGO Music Festival.
• Organise outreach activities on talent development, creativity, and basic life skills for school boys and girls.
• Assist with administrative and organisational management tasks i.e. resource mobilisation, proposal writing etc
• Manage community library and filming sessions.
• Participate in cultural dialogue session

Volunteer Requirements

• Willingness to live in a small-town setting with locals.
• Confident in sharing knowledge through training, mentoring, or public engagement.
• Experience or basic knowledge in performing and visual arts, and sports
• Passionate about working with children and youth, with a commitment to their personal and creative development.
• Basic knowledge or experience in financial literacy, computer literacy, event management, communication, or leadership skills.
• Ability to speak and write in English

Accommodation

Volunteers are accommodated in a secure and welcoming hostel located approximately 2 km (walking distance) from the project site. The hostel provides a comfortable shared room for volunteers, three meals per day, and safe boiled drinking water, ensuring a supportive and homely living environment throughout their stay.
