Brief description and main aims

Bosque Urbano is a project created by students of the Universidad de San Martín
13 years ago. They present it as a “living laboratory”, whose main objective is to
preserve the biological heritage and promote food sovereignty. It was created with
the objective of  developing outreach and awareness activities so that the community
can understand, listen and learn from nature in order to improve and create a world
with environmental justice. It has a size of 3200 metres square.

Main Activities

  • Support in the daily gardening and gardening tasks
  • Collaborate in infrastructure improvement and general maintenance
  • Get involved in the planning and implementation of recreational and educational activities related to the environment.

Volunteer tasks

  • Sustainability tasks: they help organize and lead workshops or activities focused on eco-friendly practices, such as composting, recycling, and sustainable gardening.
  • Planting and caring for native plants: Volunteers work on planting native species, maintaining gardens, and helping the ecosystem thrive. This includes watering plants, pruning, and removing invasive species.
  • General maintenance tasks: They assist with general maintenance of the urban forest, such as cleaning pathways, repairing structures, and ensuring that the space remains safe and welcoming.

In general, the task of the volunteers consists in collaborating with the maintenance
of the space, participating and assisting in weekly scheduled activities and
accompanying visitors who participate in them.

In terms of time work, the proposed schedule consists of:

  • Physical participation in the project for 4 days a week for 5 hours a day.

  • It is necessary to be open to community social work
  • Interest in Environmental Issues
  • Initiative to propose activities
  • Flexibility to adapt to new ways of working
  • Predisposition to manual work, focused on gardening and maintenance tasks
  • Willingness to generate proposals
