About the Project

The Fortaleza Centre works with up to 40 adolescents, aged 14 to 17, who are in situations of detention, probation, or pre-trial detention, alongside volunteers from external institutions. Referred by the Public Prosecutor or the Judge for Responsible Children and Adolescents, the center’s aim is to support the empowerment and reintegration of these adolescents into society using a restorative justice model. This is achieved within a warm, safe environment that upholds adolescent rights and operates under rules designed to encourage the pursuit of these goals.
The project endeavors to reverse the adverse situations adolescents face during their internment by collaborating with families and society to provide integral support. This enables their return to the social environment as responsible individuals capable of contributing to a better future, grounded in the principles of restorative justice. The Fortaleza Centre focuses on the comprehensive training and rehabilitation of adolescents by fostering a range of skills and values that encourage them to understand and take responsibility for their lives. Additionally, the center works to facilitate and optimize the daily efforts of educators who directly engage with the adolescents.
