About

The project provides education at pre-school, primary, and secondary levels for children and young people aged 3 to 18, primarily from low-income areas in Bogotá. It promotes intercultural exchange, encourages contact with different cultures, and supports the development of bilingualism. In collaboration with the Pedagogical University, children and young people participate in a variety of classes, including sports, languages, and the arts. The school day runs from 6:10 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m. or 12:15 p.m., depending on the schedule.

Location

Bogota is the capital and largest city in Colombia with about 10 million people. It is a convergence point for people from all over the country, so it is diverse and multicultural, combining the ancient and the modern. It is located at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains, for this reason autumn clothing is perfect for the city. Accommodation

The volunteer lives with a host family.

Volunteer Tasks

• Supporting teachers in their classes.
• Developing and implementing educational projects, such as those focused on environmental awareness.
• Assisting with the coordination of classes and workshops.
• Facilitating language activities or workshops (English or German) for children, parents, or teachers, depending on the volunteer’s interests. The volunteer may also act as a tutor for younger children.
• Participating in and supporting sports, technology, and extracurricular activities.

Volunteer Requirements

The volunteer should feel comfortable working with groups of 30–40 students. They should be patient, energetic, open-minded, sociable, creative, and interested in sports. Basic or advanced Spanish skills are required, or at least a strong willingness to learn quickly. Ideally, the volunteer should also be able to teach in English.
