About the Project

Camp Hope is a sanctuary dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, youth, and adults with disabilities, offering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where rehabilitation, therapy, medical care, and emotional support are paramount. Recognizing that many residents, regardless of age, may exhibit developmental or behavioral patterns akin to younger children due to intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Camp Hope ensures specialized care. For those without parental support or whose families face challenges in meeting their needs, the project provides essential residential housing at their Casa Hogar. The core mission revolves around improving beneficiaries’ quality of life through tailored therapies, inclusive educational opportunities, and attentive daily care, with beneficiaries grouped by ability rather than age to facilitate a more effective and personalized care approach.

Location

Camp Hope is situated in the north of Quito (Carcelén). “Casa Hogar” is located in Carapungo (as well in the north).

Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers are placed according to their preferences and the needs of the center.
Tasks include:

  • Assisting in personal care for children, youth, or adults (changing, feeding, hygiene)
  • Supporting educational or therapeutic activities (physical therapy, speech therapy, sensory development)
  • Organizing play-based learning and stimulation (helping with arts and crafts and play games to practice reading and writing).
  • Participating in spiritual or recreational activities

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers should have basic Spanish skills, empathy, patience, and emotional resilience, along with flexibility and a genuine desire to help others. While the project is rooted in Christian values, volunteers do not need to be Christian but must respect the environment. An interest in healthcare and working with people with disabilities is essential.

Child Protection

Please note that you will be required to sign ICYE’s policy Care to Engage on Safeguarding Children.
