Brief description and main aims

Nature Inspires, the host project is a collective of initiatives aimed at creating awareness about our symbiotic relationship with nature and how moving away from it is causing irreversible damage to the environment, society and also at individual levels.
The project works in Environment, Education, Farming, Wellness (Health) and Sustainable Tourism areas with goals being carefully achieved through following initiatives: 
a) Chiguru Ecospace - A certified organic farm and a Biodiversity Education Centre 
b) Sogadu Santhe - A direct farmer market 
c) Sanjeevini - A nursery of indigenous plants, forgotten foods and healing herbs 
d) Suyaana - An initiative to promote sustainable, responsible experience tourism

Volunteer tasks

Regular activities performed Nature Inspires - Chiguru Ecospace [NICE] are -Sustainable, chemical-free, earth-friendly farming with Agriculture, Horticulture, Aquaculture, Animal Husbandry and Apiculture integrated together for risk mitigation and optimal utilisation of space and resources. In addition to regular crops such as Coconuts, Banana, Arecanut, Mango, Guava, Sapota, Java Plum, Annona family of fruits and Citrus, a variety of spice items, flowers and wild edible fruits are harvested at the farm. We also cultivate field crops such as millets, pulses, oil seeds and fodder.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

Day to day tasks would be planned by the team as necessary based on priority. Probable tasks envisaged for volunteers are as under but definitely not limited to this. There can be some minor additions based on need on a particular day. - As part of farming, - Ground work (preparing ground for planting/sowing) - Planting / Sowing – Manuring - Watering- Harvesting - Preparation and application of chemical-free farming inputs such as Jeevamrutha, Biopesticide, etc, Deweeding / mulching - Pest management (using non-chemical based inputs) - Documenting plant growth - Learn and help in preparing value addition 
products - Marketing of produce at farmer's market, exhibitions or other forums (Occasional) - Caring for Livestock (Cattle, sheep, goat, poultry and fishes).

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

We would like to have 2 male volunteers for the coming season. They would stay with the host at project site in a separate twin-sharing accommodation. 
Project will be providing the organic food which is plucked and bring herbs from the same campus cooked and eat healthy and natural food without any chemical. 

More Information

Working schedule at farm is generally decided based on the climatic conditions and the inflow of visitors. We start outdoor work early in the morning and move towards indoor work whenever Sun is scorching hot. Volunteers are expected to put-in a minimum of 6-8 hours of work every day. Timings can be flexible based on the merits of the tasks. Weekends are busy days as there will be guests visiting the farm. Volunteers are encouraged to take vacation during weekdays with prior intimation to host. Regular schedule can be worked out to ensure mutual benefit
