Brief description and main aims

The aim is to provide education, food and shelter to orphans and vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project has a total population of 550 students and staff during school days and 50 during holidays. 

Main Activities

  • Running of the pre-school, primary and secondary schools
  • A feeding program for the children
  • Providing shelter and care for the children

Volunteer tasks

  • Teaching any subject that the volunteer is skilled in
  • Participating in co-curricular activities like music, drama and sports

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Teaching skills (either in pre-school, primary or secondary level)
  • Counselling skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills (English language knowledge)
  • Motivated and a team player
  • Arts or sports skills are an advantage

Location

The project is located near the sprawling Mathare slums where the poverty levels are high with many informal settlements. A large number of the population lives within an income of less than one dollar per day. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Living with a host family.
