Brief description and main aims

Farming and fishing remain the major source of income for the people of Barili, with its agricultural sector complemented by a vibrant livestock market which is one of the biggest of its kind in the whole province. 

The LGU of Barili hopes to promote social and economic development through enhanced agritourism productivity, well-planned infrastructure programs, good governance and sustained disaster resiliency activities for a livable and drug-free community.

Main Activities

  • Crops and livestock enhancement programs
  • Community food production (backyard farming, etc.)
  • Veterinary outreach program (animal vaccinations)
  • Training on organic farming and other farming technology
  • Tree planting, coastal clean-up and other community service

Volunteer tasks

  • Assist in the development, coordination and conduct of the crops and livestock enhancement programs
  • Provide support to the project related agriculture programs and activities
  • Assist capacity building/training devlopment on rural agriculture
  • Assist in farmworks like weeding and harvesting
  • Marketing/training development involvement

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Flexible, open-minded and able to adopt to the local situation
  • Commitment to regular updates/reporting/monitoring through mobile, online communication
  • Independent and requires less supervision
  • Innovative, industrious, adventurous, and creative

Location

The project is located in Barili, Cebu.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family (expect to have a shared room with your host sister or brother).
