The Martin Farm (IND-100)
|
Brief description and main aims
The Martin Farm in Bangalore is a working farm. We are open exclusively for children to learn about farming, conservation, ecology, wildlife and related topics. The farm is set-up and managed as a natural eco-system showing that man can live sustainably in nature without destroying it. We have all the common farm animals, about 31 wild species of birds and smaller wildlife at the farm such as mongoose, wild hare and more. There is a lot of trees and wild life at the farm.
Our programs include a petting zoo concept, conservation workshops, government school farming programs, community waste management, a community farming junior entrepreneur program, animal assisted therapy and more. All of our programs are experiential learning programs.
We work with children of all ages from toddlers to teenagers. Our work extends to schools for differently-abled children including orphanages, government schools and other NGO specialised in this field. We have about 5 staff members in our team in varying capacities including assisting with facilitating our programs, farm maintenance, admin work, animal care, ect.

Location
We are located in a village called Chikkabellandur. The Martin family have owned and run the farm for the past 35 years. The village has now grown but still retains its essential flavour of a close knit neighbourhood. The farm is tucked away from the hustle of urbanisation. The community around the farm are primarily locals who speak only Kannada as well as migrant worker residents.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)The volunteer will live in the project's guest house. |
More InformationWe work, eat and live together supporting each other for the management of the farm and our community. We do not allow drinking and smoking on the premises and are a zero-waste area and everyone is expected to support this while ensuring water conservation and green living. We respect differences in each other, our guests and people within our programs and develop strong bonds with each other. |
