Brief description and main aims

Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (PADS) is an independent non-governmental organization working to enable the PWD (Person with disability) community to grow and develop as independent integrated, fully human and empowered citizens in society.

Main Activities

  • Special education on knowledge, skills and attitude as well as life skills
  • Adoptive sports program (volleyball, dragon boat, etc.)
  • Person with disability community organizing 
  • PWD rights advocacy
  • Education (formal, non-formal and catechism/religion, sports, arts, etc.)
  • Facilitators, logistics, coordinators for seminars, workshops, retreats and recollections

(Note: With the new set up due to pandemic, expect to be exposed in teaching and organizing other activities in an online environment.)

Volunteer tasks

  • Participate in sports and recreational activities
  • Assist the staff/trainers/facilitators on social inclusion training
  • Assist in rehabilitation sessions
  • Assist volunteer related advocacy campaigns in schools, communities, institutions and other events
  • Mingle with the PWD, volunteers and other clients/partners
  • Assist website and social media development and resource mobilization

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Competent, innovative and creative
  • Flexible, open-minded and able to adopt the local situation
  • Sport-oriented individual
  • Independent and requires less supervision
  • Willing to learn sign language
  • Knowledgeable/interests in the medical field like PT, speech therapy nurses and etc.

Location

The project is located in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Living with a host family (expect to have a shared room with your host sister or brother).
