Brief description and main aims

The aim of this project is to create societies where animal rights are respected by authorities and citizens alike as well as to assure the welfare of all animals.

Main Activities

  • Promote and defend the rights of the animals in the state of Chiapas.
  • Rescue animals living in the streets, take care of them, and find them loving families.
  • Create awareness and education campaigns to teach citizens about animal rights and good practices in caring for pets.
  • Encourage responsible adoption.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer will: 

  • Clean the temporary home for street animals
  • Feed the animals (mostly dogs and cats)
  • Take the animals out for a walk.
  • Work with social networks. 
  • Help in the construction of a cabin, etc. 
  • Help in adoption campaigns (take pictures of the animals, create flyers, visit schools, etc.).

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer must:

  • Have willigness to work with dogs and cats. 
  • Have willigness to camp a couple of days per week in the temporary home for street animals until a cabin is built (the volunteer will live for the rest of the time in town).
  • Love for animals and nature.
  • Be creative when working with social networks and other marketing materials.
  • Be outspoken (the volunteer will have to talk with people about animal rights, etc.).

Location

The project is located in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. In San Cristobal de las Casas there is a law in favor of animal welfare. Nevertheless, there is still a big gap between the implementation of the law. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family and camp at least twice a week.
