Kita LIFE – Montessori day care centre (CHE-46)

Brief description and main aims

Kita LIFE is a day care centre for for babies, toddlers and kindergarden children (3 months up to 6 years) at two different locations in Küsnacht. The children spend their day time here, while the parents are at work.

They use the pedagogical concept of Montessori as their guidelines and offer a bilingual day care (German and English). One day a week they spend inthe nearby forest. On the other days the children play on the different playgrounds in the area, in the garden or can develop their creativity in the artist’s workshop.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer has the chance to work in all parts of Kita LIFE. The most important task is to assist the professional caregivers in taking care of the children. This includes to bring in own ideas for activities for the children and assist in the organisation and implementation of the daily programme and routine.

The volunteer has the chance to learn more about the pedagogical concept of Montessori and assists in the different team meetings in order to learn as much as possible about the work in a Montessori day care centre for young children. Next to the work with the children the volunteer takes part in different household tasks such as cleaning or cooking.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should enjoy working with children, be open-minded, motivated and flexible. The volunteer will be part of the team and should be a punctual and reliable co-worker.

The volunteer is willing to start the days in the project early - most of the days at 7:30am. On those days, breakfast is provided by the Kita LIFE. Also, the project offers lunch and meals in between when these take place during work time. Per week the volunteer works approximately 32 hours, the equivalent of 4 work days. Willingness to learn German.

Location

Küsnacht is a small city with about 14'000 inhabitants at the shores of Lake Zürich in the German-speaking part of Switzerland: only stone's throw away from Switzerland's biggest city of Zürich. It takes 15 minutes by train to get there. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
