Brief description and main aims

Albergue Infantil los Pinos AC. was founded in 1987 in order to support children in vulnerable situations and extreme poverty, by providing them with the tools to become good citizens, self-sufficient humans and promoters of a better society. Children and adolescents come to our Albergue from difficult backgrounds (lack of love, malnutrition, and depression/fears caused by psychological and sometimes physical abuse).
 
The project has two houses:
  • House of Children: Serving 70 children from 4 to 12 years old
  • Youth House: Serving 30 minors between 13 and 18 years old.

The project wants to be a home for children who do not have one.

Main Activities

Albergue Los Pinos fundamental tasks are:
  • Help the children solve emotional problems through therapy.
  • Help children  regain their self-confidence and love for others.
  • Provide them with the necessary tools for adequate social integration.
  • Provide professional support to the children, youth and their families

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer will support in different areas:
  • Support in teaching tasks
  • Support in recreational activities
  • Accompany the beneficiaries of the program
  • Monitor data records.
  • Promotion of ecology and cultural activities.
  • Support in administrative tasks
  • Support in the coordination of the program.
Working schedule: Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, includes time for lunch at 2 pm

  • Be patient with children and adolescents.

  • Empathy and sensitivity to others' situation
  • Teamwork and responsibility
  • Good presentation.
  • Fast learner and capable of understanding and following the educator´s decisions to deal with the kids
  • Interest in fieldwork

  • Punctuality

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.

More Information

The volunteer will be surrounded by children and adolescents with physical, social, cultural and emotional damage. The majority have learning disabilities, and health, nutrition, and hygiene problems. The beneficiaries of the program come from violent and poor colonies.
