Brief description and main aims

Cornerstone is a community school comprising of both, a Nursery and primary section. Our theme is providing quality education with a vision to empower underprivileged children to a bright future. The school started in 2011 and currently we have 600 children from both sections.

Cornerstone is built on a Christianity Foundation, we teach our children to love and honor the Lord in any way they can. School activities include: teaching, learning about culture and practicing sports, music classes, dancing and drama.

Volunteer tasks

Some of the volunteer's tasks include:
  • Assisting teachers in classes (3-6 years old)
  • Carrying out bible study, singing and teaching at the kids' church
  • Joining teachers for extra co-curriculum activities like sports, music, dance and drama
  • Helping in hands-on lessons
  • Serving meals to the children 
  • Doing laundry

Location

Cornerstone is located 200kms from Kampala in the Eastern region of Uganda. Water, electricity, and phone internet are available. There is a big district referral hospital.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family. She/he will have her/his own room but will share common space with the family.
