Brief description and main aims

Fundación Procrear works as a “community house” with the aim of providing support needed for the different parts of the local population. The aim of the work with children and teenagers is promoting citizenship and peace and preventing drug abuse. The work with homeless population and girls working in prostitution aims to reduce the damage of drug abuse.

Main Activities

Project 1: The Parche support centre – a center of conversation where people in conditions of high vulnerability can receive support: homeless people, sex workers, trans men and trans women etc. The project integrates two important elements, forming operator pairs or community leaders and networking.

Project 2: Proyecto Protagonismos Juveniles from 6 to 17 years in Sopó – works to prevent drug use and promote peace, self care and anti-violence in four schools in the municipality and in two neighbouring villages.

  • To help with fundraising
  • To promote cultural activities and visit different youth groups and communities

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Must have the motivational and ability to deal and work with teenagers
  • Must be organized and able to work collaboratively
  • Must be analytical, reflexive and critical 
  • Must be enthusiastic, responsible, and full of energy
  • Must have some artistic abilities
 
Important: You  need  to  be  proactive,  motivated  to work with young people, be creative and have understanding of the  internal  dynamics  of  the  organization  and  the complicated  background  of  children  and  youngsters you will be working with.The project is situated in the  tolerance  zone  of  barrio  Santa  Fe, one of the poorest areas of Bogotá and blighted with a range of social problems.

Location

The project is located in Bogotá. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country. It is the biggest city in Colombia, the third highest in the world above sea level and known for its high number of universities, libraries and cultural events. It has a population estimated at around 10 million.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
