Brief description and main aims

The project offers a program of therapeutic - educational treatment for children and adolescents aged 10-18 years old and their families, for biological, psychological and social recuperation after the effects of consuming psychoactive substances.
 
The project is a “live-in” project, meaning the participants live within the project throughout the duration of the program. The project aims to strengthen develop the children and adolescents social relations abd combat addictions based on a human rights approach.

Main Activities

The program consists of various types of therapy:  group therapy, horse therapy, confrontational exercises, feedback etc. as well as direct psychological help for the consequences of prolonged substance abuse. The project also offers schooling and occupational training, home visits, family counselling, meditation and spiritual guidance.

Volunteer tasks

  • Reinforcement of educational processes
  • Helping with homework
  • Occupational workshops (e.g. English classes)
  • Accompaniment or orientation of groups
  • Supporting recreational activities (e.g. painting of walls, drawing, doing handcrafts)
  • Administrative work (filing)

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Willingness to support the project with own knowledge, skills or abilities.
  • Responsible and self-motivated character, very self-organized and patient 
Important: You must be be proactive, patient, self- motivated, open-minded, responsible and creative. Living at the project comes with responsibilities and rules to follow. You might not have the opportunity to leave the project during the week.

Location

The project is locate in Sasaima. It is a small town (10,000 hab), 80 km away from Bogotá. Temperature around 22C. mainly focused on Tourism and coffee and Sugar Cane agriculture. Is surrounded of natural highLights for hiking and relaxing.

 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Living at the project: The volunteer will live in a room, private or shared with other member of the team, depending on availability. There is WiFi in the project’s public areas. The volunteer doesn’t have access to the kitchen, meals are provided in the project. Generally, the volunteer has to do their laundry by hand, though a washing machine may be available. It is important to respect the security rules.

The farm is surrounded by green and nature, 20 minutes away from Sasaima by car.
