Brief description and main aims

Sheltering children in difficult situations and enable possible reintegration into their families of origin or substitute families. The children's age range is between 5 and 18 years. The project operates mainly as a shelter for street children, mentally and physical disabled children.

Main Activities

The orphanage is divided into different sectors; management, health centre, dentist, carpentry and a kitchen.

Volunteer tasks

  • The volunteer will work with the children in the majority of the time.
  • Help with the planning and execution of the programs for the children

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should:
  • Be dynamic, creative, trustworthy, flexible
  • Have knowledge of childhood
  • Have experience in working with mentally as well as physically handicapped children
  • Be a person who can easily adapt to the offered situations and conditions
  • Have information about mental illnesses and epilepsy
  • Be able to teach different games and sports to children
  • Have musical skills or play an instrument

Location

The Infantário da Matola is located in a residential area of Matola city. Facilities and service are around and it is a safe area and easily accessible by local transport system.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
