Education at pre-school and primary level for students from 4 to 11 grade and high school for students from 11 to 19.
Promotion of intercultural exchange, offering the pupils a contact with other cultures and promoting bilinguism.
The project provides education for children and teenagers (3-18 years old) from mostly very poor areas of Bogotá. In collaboration with the Pedagogic University the youngsters and kids receive different classes inlcuding sports, languages and arts. The school day begins at 6:30 and ends at 12:30.
The volunteer is expected to:
provide support to the regular teaches in their classes
develop only educational projects (e.g. environmental awareness)
assisst teachers in other classes depending on ability (Maths, Science)
create educational courses for parents and teachers (depending on interests)
help with the coordination of classes and workshops (in particular, English)
The volunteer can also be a tutor for the youngest kids.
Volunteer requirements / Skills
The volunteer should:
have the affinity and ability to deal and work with groups of children/teenagers
be patient, full of energy, open-minded, sociable, creative and athletic
have basic or advanced Spanish skills (or willingness to learn fast)
preferably able to teach English
No gender is give a preference.
Important: You need to be proactive, motivated to work with young people, and full of ideas. Understanding the internal dynamics of the organization and the complicated background of youngsters you will be working with.
