Brief description and main aims

AM-EN seeks to distribute alternative therapeutic methods on a national and sub-regional level and to optimize the lives of people with disabilities. In order to achieve this purpose, the foundation stimulates disabled children through horse riding therapy.

Main Activities

The project's main activities include:
  • Stimulation for children between 1 - 6 years old.
  • Seminars and workshops to students, professionals and parents of children with disabilities in the Am-En Center.
  • Horseback riding.
  • Recreation activities for disable people.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer is expected to:

  • help disabled children ride horses.
  • help with maintenance of the horses.
  • help out welcoming participants.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should:
  • have an interest in working with disabled children.
  • have a love for horses.
If the volunteer wants to participate in the psychology and rehabilitation workshops, they must have previous work experience in this field.

Location

Tumbacois, 50 minutes outside of Quito.
 
The project is located about a 20-minute walk from the bus stop. The center is a large, well maintained property that is surrounded only by nature.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

There is a volunteer house on the same property as the AM-EN project, so volunteers live all together. The house has a kitchen where volunteers can cook and prepare their food. As a second option, volunteers may live with a host family in the Tumbaco area.
