St. Raphael is a day care center for children and young adults with developmental or multiple disabilities from moderate to severe degree. It was founded on 23 December, 1974. By the Catholic Diocese of Tainan, and has been legally registered with the City Government of Tainan as a social welfare organization since 1982. At present the center has 220 students and a staff of 80 educators, therapists, office workers and drivers.
Improve the quality of life of the disabled children and their families.
Stimulate skills for the disabled children and young adults so that they can have some independence.
Co-assistance in day-to-day tasks and rehabilitation course in the centre, such as feeding and playing with the children.
Support the professional colleagues in teaching the handicrafts classes.
Volunteer requirements / Skills
Be interested in working with mentally disabled children and young adults.
Be positive, active and patient.
Male and female volunteers aged in between 19-28 are welcome to participate in this project.
The St. Raphael Opportunity Center is situated in YuGuang Island, AnPing Dist., Tainan, is a city in southern Taiwan.
AnPing Old Fort is one of the most famous tourist spots in Tainan city which is around 40 minutes’ walk from the project. Tainan has around 1,875,000 inhabitants. From the project to the city train station is about 50 minutes by bus.
From Tainan city to Kaohsiung city is around 45 km and 317km to Taipei City. The public transportation from Tainan city to Kaohsiung or Taipei city connection are good, you can easily take a bus, train or high speed rail to any city in Taiwan.
