Brief description and main aims
"ICAL (Instituto Colombiano de la Audición y el Lenguaje)" is a school centre for children approximately 250 children between the age of 2 and 23, promoting education and rehabilitation of deaf and hearing impaired children and also children with various disabilities as well as hearing-healthy children. Most of the pupils come from socially deprived families. The main aim is to help the children develop cognitive, communicational, moral and social skills, so that they can be self-confident members of their community. |
Main ActivitiesChild education in normal academic subjects, with additional teaching of health and foreign languages, as well as rehabilitation sessions. |

Volunteer requirements / Skills
Important: Must have necessary qualities to work with children with different kind of hearing disabilities. Should be able to learn from the kids, understand their condition and background and have the ability to learn Colombian sign language.

LocationThe project is located in Chía, a small town located in the north of Bogotá, an one hour and half bus ride away from the capital. It has almost 200.000 habitants. The volunteer could live in Bogotá. |
Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)The volunteer will live with a host family. |
