| Brief description and main aims | |
Ågård Efterskole is one of many “efterskoler” in Denmark. Students from 14-17 years of age live and study at the school. Ågård Efterskole is based on the values of N.F.S. Grundtvig, who was one of the initiators of folk high schools in Denmark in the 19th century. It has a Christian base and tries to give the students an understanding of Danish history, culture and also the contemporary society in general. | |
| Main Activities | |
At Ågård Efterskole gymnastics play a big part. All students are engaged in this sport and we see it as a way to create a bond between the students and give them opportunity to develop individually. Creative subjects such as singing, acting and dancing are also available at our school.
Every day we have “story-telling hour”, where a teacher speaks of a specific subject, such as history, culture or politics. The students are engaged in discussion and it evolves their understanding of worldly events. | |
| Volunteer tasks | |
The main task for the volunteer is to be a part of the “boarding school” daily life – helping with teaching and supervising young people at the age of 14-18 together with other teachers, help in the kitchen 1-2 days a week or otherwise at the school, depending on talents and interests. The main goal is to create an atmosphere at the school where the students feel in a safe and inspiring environment.
Other possibilities depending on your interests could be to arrange different sports like volleyball, football, handball, badminton or gymnastics with students. Especially gymnastics play a big role at Ågård Efterskole and we participate in different shows throughout the year. The volunteer could also participate in different music lessons or choir arrangements with students, help with computers, video making and the likes or help by taking part in evening duties at the school (supervision) together with another teacher.

| Volunteer requirements / Skills | |
The volunteer must be motivated and flexible in coming to a new country.
We do not expect any particular skills from the volunteer. Our school has many different activities and tries to provide the students with different possibilities. Therefore we will arrange the specific tasks for the volunteer together with him/her, based on his/her competences and skills when he/she arrives. | |
| Location | |
Ågård Efterskole is a small city situated in a rural area. It is in the southern/middle part of Jutland, close to bigger cities such as Kolding and Vejle. | |
| Hosting Situation (Board & Lodging) | |
The volunteer will stay at the school in his own rooms. He will eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with the students and teachers at the school. In weekends and holidays he will be with his contact person’s family, who is also a teacher at the school. | |
