A residential home for mentally & intellectually challenged senior citizens as well as a seniors home for citizens who do not have any other residence.

- The centre runs projects that involve the clients of the home. These projects are sustainable or even income generating. Amongst others there is a Gardening project, which produces organic fruits and vegetables.
- Rise the awareness of the clients regarding the importance of a sustainable project and the benefits individually, healthy living and the positive global influence.
- Target new waste collections depots around the city
- Develop skills development plans for the clients of the shelter.

Within the shelter, the volunteer will act as an extension to their staff, supplementing and enhancing the services that they offer and would therefore be required to
- Be actively involved in assisting all project activities at the home.
- Work within the diverse team of staff and volunteers at the home.
- Using personal talents, skills and expertise of the volunteer to enhance existing sustainable projects of the shelter thus after completion allowing continuity of the project/activity once the volunteer’s term has been completed.
- Attend and actively contribute in planning sessions and meetings relevant to the sustainable project
- Have clear and honest communication with the clients and staff of the home in order to develop a good working relationship and to be a positive role model.
- Take responsibility for learning through active integration into the organization

The volunteer requirments are:

- Have a basic understanding of the Mentally Challenged Adult

- Be open minded, active, creative and patient

- Interested in working with mentally challenged adults

- Be open to doing manual maintenance tasks

Cape Town

Volunteers will be living with host families who will provide meals. A small lunch allowance may be provided, should placement organisation not supply meals. The host family has been screened and approved by the host organisation.
