Integration, Education and Rehabilitation Centre (POL-10)

Brief description and main aims

The Centre is run by an association which supports children from local community and adults with intellectual disabilities. It provides educational help for children, supports proper upbringing and socialization, and offers free time activities. It also provides occupational therapies for intellectually disabled adults and a nursery school for the youngest children.

Main Activities

Project activities include:

• educational activities for children
• free time activities
• occupational therapies for intellectually disabled adults
• psychological support
• socialization
• nursery school

Volunteer tasks

• Organizing educational workshops and free time activities for children
• Helping during occupational therapies for intellectually disabled adults: cooking classes, carpentry, IT and multimedia, gardening, visual arts
• Spending free time together with intellectually disabled adults (playing board games etc.)
• Individual support for people who do not feel well to spend time in group (e.g. with autism)

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should be :

• Able to communicate in English.
• Motivated to work as a volunteer (no paid work nor studies are allowed during your project) and willing to learn.
• Friendly and willing to get to know and work with children and people with intellectual disabilities
• Independent, reliable and diligent.
• Open-minded and open to different cultures and lifestyles.

Location

Serock is a small town of around 4 thousand inhabitants 40 km from the capital city – Warsaw. It is located at the bank of the Zegrze Lake being a popular place for tourism and recreation for people from Warsaw.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will have a shared double room in the Centre. During the weekdays lunch will be provided in the Centre’s canteen, food allowance for other meals and weekends will be provided.
