Brief description and main aims

The Angel’s Center was established to ensure that children with Down syndrome can reach their full potential and be fully integrated into society.

We provide a variety of services in early childhood learning, situation analysis, awareness creation, counselling and guidance, training and capacity building.

Our goal is to see these children grow up normally, independent and responsible in all aspects of life.
The Angel's Center has 30 children in total, who are full residents in our center. Our target age group is between 3-12 years old.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer's tasks include:
  • Train the children in activities of daily living
  • Support the children on social skills, communication skills and behavioural modification
  • Backup the team with play activities for child mentoring

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should:

  • Be able to communicate in English 
  • Love children
  • Be able to adapt easily
  • Be open-minded
  • Be intrested in working with children who have developmental challenges

 

Location

The center is located in Nansana town, which is highly populated. Most people in Nansana operate or run small businesses, e.g. retail shops, supermarkets, hardware stores and clothing shops, among others.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

UVP/ICYE Uganda organizes host families for our volunteers. Volunteers will live with a host family and have their own bedroom.
