Brief description and main aims

AJUDE (Associação Juvenil Para o Desenvolvimento do Voluntariado em Moçambique) is a non-profit organization which brings together young Mozambicans without distinction to race, sex, religion, tribe, level of education or any other way of discrimination. The idea of creating AJUDE dates back to 1993.

Our main objectives are:

  • To promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays;
  • To promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit;

  • To promote exchange of youth volunteers in the different regions of Mozambique, of Africa and the rest of the world;
  • To send young Mozambican volunteers to participate in voluntary work in other countries;
  • To create opportunities to exchange experiences between youth from different parts of the country and the rest of the world;
  • To assist with community development;
  • To promote international understanding through voluntary services;
  • To enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures; k) to encourage the concept of voluntary services as a force in search for peace equality, democracy and international understanding;
  • To provide opportunities for the people of Mozambique to become aware of international issues.
We are partners with a) CWY – Canada World Youth; b) Volunteer Centre of South Africa; c) ICYE – International Culture Youth Exchange; d) Botswana Workcamp Association; e) Zimbabwe Workcamp Association; f) SCI – Service Civil International; g) Mozambique National Youth Council; h) LINK – Mozambique NGO’s Forum; i) CCIVS; j) SAYM – Southern Africa Youth Movement; k) SAWC – Southern Africa Workcamp Co-operation; l) Mozambique Volunteering Committee.

Main Activities

Our activities include:
  • Short, medium and long-term volunteer exchange
  • Training for young volunteers on human rights, rural development, gender equality, emergency and natural disasters relief, HIV/AIDS, environment and sustainable development

Volunteer tasks

  • The volunteer is entitled to working with marketing and visibility of AJUDE meaning to deal with computer, internet and all sort of social media platforms
  • Update the AJUDE website;
  • Produce visibility/advert material for AJUDE;
  • Produce a newsletter for AJUDE;

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Able to communicate in English;
  • Passion for community work;
  • Open to learn and able to share personal experience;
  • Active and creative;
  • Interested in social media;
  • Web development and marketing skills;

Location

The project is located in a very residential area of Maputo City. It is a very safe area that offers many facilities and is easily accessible from any point of Maputo.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
