Brief description and main aims

Mengo Youth Development Link (MYDEL) is a non-governmental organization. The main focus is at our primary school in Nansana and in the slum called Kisenyi. The project also works on poverty alleviation in Uganda through improving the quality of life of the vulnerable youth and children through practical, management, and marketable skills.

Volunteer tasks

The volunter is expected to:
  • Assist teachers with all school duties 
  • Get involved in sports with the slum children (former Street children)
  • Teach different languages, especially English
  • Carry out community sensitization, in general cleanliness
  • Provide support care to the needy
  • Work together with the community to promote human rights

Volunteers work both at the school and slum project, 2 or 3 days on each project from Monday to Friday.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

We host volunteers who:

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Love working with children
  • Are ready to work in a slum 
  • Are looking forward to establishing connections with people and brighten up ther days
  • Are creative in all aspects

Location

The project is located in Nasana Hoima road, 10km from Kampala.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will stay with a host family.
