Brief description and main aims

Jukumu Letu Organization (JLO) started in 2007 with an aim of reaching out to pre-school orphans and vulnerable children from Mathare slum in Ngong. The primary objective of the centre is to provide a safe and secure location for young children to be cared for while their care-giver or older siblings attend school or work.

Main Activities

Currently the organization operates in Ngong Township & VihigaCounty in western Kenya. In this light the Jukumu Letu Day Care and kindergarten targets children from the Mathare slum in Ngong town of Kajiado district. The project help the community by providing better health services and a good education foundation, both at affordable rates to the community and by empowering women

Volunteer tasks

Assist in teaching in the nursery school and general care of the children e.g. Feeding , playing games with the children

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Ability to work with children and mothers
  • Should be able to communicate in English
  • Willing to learn

Rural-urban area on the outskirts of Nairobi. Set-up close to the Mathare slums
