Brief description and main aims

Proyecto Piloto de Atención Cultural Complementaria a Niños(as) y Jóvenes de 7-14 Años is a governmental project that works with at-risk children and youth, aged 7-14, providing them opportunities for extracurricular activities related to art, culture and computer science. It provides an opportunity for children and youth at different stages of vulnerability, to spend free time in a positive way, changing attitudes, creating social values, providing comprehensive care with the necessary tools so that children and youth can acquire a new vision of life through art, culture and computer science. The project forms part of the Programa Piloto Integral de Combate a la Pobreza Urbana – PPICPU, a governmental programme funded by the Secretaría de Finanzas (Ministry of Finances).

Main Activities

The project focuses in providing training to the interests, skills and/or talents of at-risk children and youth on four art & culture disciplines: visual arts, dance, music and theatre, and on one technical discipline: computer science. The project also offers psycho-social counselling/assistance.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer can support the instructors in the different art & culture and technical workshops / lessons according to her/his skills and competences, such as: visual arts, dance, music, theatre and computer science. The volunteer can also support in different educational workshops, help organise different artistic events, and spend time with the children and youth.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • 18+ years old.
  • Female or male.
  • A fair knowledge of Spanish in order to interact/work with the children and youth.
  • Experience or studies in the artistic area is highly appreciated (art in general, performing arts, cinema, theatre, dance, visual arts, music, literature), as well as an average to superior level of knowledge in the area of computer science
  • Aptitude and willingness to work with children and youth, good interpersonal relations.

Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán.
