Brief description and main aims

The main objective of “Comamos y Crezcamos” is to support families with low resources by improving the nourishment of their children. The project also aims to develop the academic and physical skills of children.
 
The secondary objectives of the organization are:
  • Improve the nourishment of children attending from kindergarten to elementary school
  • Increase school attendance through good nutrition
  • Encourage the habit of hygiene both in the preparation and consumption of food
  • Strengthen education with values and family involvement
  • Improve the quality of life and strengthen the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding food, nutrition, and health of children
  • Encourage children to be interested in their education by providing artistic, cultural, and sports activities
  • Meet the needs of children in various villages of the State of Puebla

Main Activities

The project's main activities include:
  • Feeding children from low income families
  • Assisting the children with psychological consultancy
  • Helping the children in their homework after the meal
  • Provide the children with a variety of artistic and athletic activities

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer will:

  • Serve lunch to the children
  • Be a teacher assistant
  • Help prepare the material for the class
  • Look after the children while playing

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteers should be:

  • Able to take responsibilities and initiatives
  • Responsible
  • Independent 
  • Able to organize activities for children

Location

Puebla is one of the five provinces with more poverty and marginalization in the country. Children tend to be the ones that suffer the most the consequences of it. Especially, poor children under 5 years old suffer of malnutrition, and low productivity at school. The project is located in a very poor neighbourhood, “Nueva San Salvador”, which is besides the highway and big industrial parks. Its population are migrants from La Sierra Negra.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family in Puebla.
