Brief description and main aims

Assisting vulnerable children in difficult situations and integrating them into the society through education.

Main Activities

• Primary and secondary education
• Vocational and professional activities
• Sports, sewing, cooking and others

Volunteer tasks

• Help in the area of learning the English language, computer and other vocational work
• Volunteer might be asked participate in a street working group who try to convince street children to move into the center
• Volunteer might also be asked to work with children who are already living at the center

Volunteer requirements / Skills

• Have some computer skills in order to be able to train the children and some staff members if required
• Speak English and have the capacity to teach some basic knowledge to the children and the staff if required
• Have some knowledge of “child-psychology”
• Be motivated and have the spirit of working in groups
• Be flexible, creative and adaptable in relation to the given conditions
• Have patience and willingness to work with children

Location

The project is located in one of the suburbs of Maputo, a residential area. Some services and facilities are provided in the area. It is very safe and easily accessible by local transport.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
