JUCONI A.C. (Juntos con los niños) (MEX-4)

Type: Socially Excluded Groups: Street children - Country: Mexico

Brief description and main aims

JUCONI seeks out and provides personalized support to society’s most vulnerable children and families trapped in toxic cycles of both family violence and chronic poverty.

One of the greatest challenges that Mexico faces is poverty; millions of children find themselves in an unacceptable situation without opportunities to develop in a healthy way or access their rights. Without the support of society, the children that grow up in these 7 conditions can seldom break out this the vicious circle. It is most likely that they will themselves repeat the same patterns of violence as adults with their own families.

Main Activities

JUCONI works with 350 children and their families every year, through 3 programs:
  1. Program for children living in the streets and their families.
  2. Program for children working in the streets and their families.
  3. Program for children working in the markets and their families.

JUCONI coordinates with parents, siblings, teachers, neighbors, employers, etc. in order to attain, and more importantly, sustain the transition of children, from exclusion to inclusion. The holistic approach assures permanent success in 4 key areas:
  1. Academic achievement: the project grants access to education.
  2. Positive social relationships: the project creates abilities to foster and maintain positive bonds with peers, neighbors, and authority figures.
  3. Economic opportunities (14 years and older): the project creates and promote the abilities and values necessaries to have success in the formal workforce.
  4. Family: the project fosters positive, violence-free communication within families.
