The UN Youth Unit is the focal point in the UN on youth. It aims to enhance awareness of the global
situation of youth and of the rights and aspirations of young people. It works towards greater

Social Policy and Development.

UNESCO Section for Youth
UNESCO's objective is to help empower young people, reaching out to them, responding to their
expectations and ideas, fostering useful and long-lasting skills. The United Nations define youth
as persons between the ages of 15 and 25. The Section for Youth works specifically for the people
in this age category.

Decade for a Culture of Peace
In 2000, the UN-General Assembly proclaimed the Declaration on a Culture of Peace to the end that
governments, international organizations and civil society may be guided in their activity by
its provisions to promote and strengthen a culture of peace in the new millennium.
