For a smaller, but equally important number of young people, some ICYE member organisations,
such as in Austria, Bolivia, Denmark, Finland and Japan, offer students aged 16 to 18, the opportunity
to spend a year abroad, living with a family and attending secondary school.
Through this international educational experience, exchange students learn another language, learn
about the culture of the host country, make life-long friendships in the host family, school and the
local community, and share their experiences with other exchange students from around the world. Exchange
students also have the possibility to participate in volunteering activities and issue conferences.
To find out which countries offer the school exchange programme, please consult our
National Committees' section.
